College football coaches are out in full swing on the sports recruiting
trail. Many coaches are doing all they can to secure verbal offers
from high school athletes and junior college athletes to solidify
their 2010 recruiting class.
With all the challenges college coaches face in a given year, the one
challenge that never ends is recruiting. Dirk Facer at the Deseret
News in Salt Lake City, Utah interviewed Utah Football coach Kyle
Whittingham about his team’s upcoming bowl bid. Coach Whittingham
informed Dirk that he would not be watching the bowl selection show
from the comforts of his own coach; rather Coach Wittingham would be
out on the recruiting trail. Coach Whittingham said “Recruiting never stops.
It’s the most important aspect of your job. So you’ve got to make sure
you get it taken care of.” (Deseret News, Sat, Dec 5,2009. By Dirk
Facer dirk@desnews.com)
Yes you read that quote right. Recruiting is the “most important
aspect” of a college coach’s job.
Make sure you’re on college coaches radars by letting them know you’re
interested in their programs and that you want an athletic
scholarship. You cannot sit back and think that you’ll get all of the
looks and offers you could have during the high school recruiting
process. Remember, if college coaches don’t know you exist, they can’t
and won’t recruit you!
The key to succeeding in the recruiting process is to get “in the
game.” Start today by contacting coaches. Be persistent and make it
easy for college coaches to recruit you. Do you have a game plan for
how you’ll effectively contact coaches? Do you know what you should
say? Do what it takes to BE SEEN!

Congratulations to Stefan for being selected as this week’s National Steel Athlete of the Week! Stefan should be congratulated for his tremendous character on and off the field as he has demonstrated through his actions and accomplishments. He looks to have another successful season next year and possibly lead his team to a back to back state championship.

Steel Athlete has now introduced a new feature to their site known as the Steel Athlete National Athlete of the Week, on www.steelathlete.com which will be implemented immediately. This will give anyone, mom or dad, coach or academic counselor, church, community organization, city, etc., the opportunity to nominate a high school athlete, male and female, throughout the country to gain immediate recognition for something that athlete has contributed in or for. Steel Athlete has mentioned that one of the reasons that they have implemented this is to give recognition to outstanding individuals an opportunity to shine for many reasons such as, young student athletes who have had an impact in the community, academics, athletic performance, outstanding leadership, service and many, many other reasons. Steel Athlete knows that there are tremendous athletes out there, but there is much more to being a great athlete and they want to know about those things as well.
Steel Athlete will select a male and female athlete per week starting shortly. They would like to receive as many nominations as possible because they know that there are plenty of tremendous athletes who need to be recognized. Once selected by the Steel Athlete’s board of voters, based on the nominations received and information given, Steel Athlete will select an Athlete of the Week and put them on their site, blog, and social media pages. They do this to help with the recruiting process and give each athlete as much recognition to college coaches and recruiters. These athletes will also be given a FREE profile on www.steelathlete.com which provides them with an incredible opportunity to continue their recruiting process and connect with thousands of college coaches and recruiters in the nation.
The company Steel Athlete and the website www.steelathlete.com helps educate student athletes in the recruiting process and connect with college recruiters and coaches throughout the country. One of our athletes who is in his senior season sent out an email three weeks ago after his last game to a college coach, and within three days the coach added this athlete to the top of his recruiting class. This athlete had everything the coach needed to begin recruiting him on his Steel Athlete profile. Once the email was sent to the coach, a link was provided directly to this athletes profile where the coach could see his game films. He made it easy for this coach to begin recruiting him. As the end of the high school football season has arrived many athletes may be scratching their heads wondering why they aren’t being recruited like they thought they would have been when the season started. The same goes for girls soccer that recently ended. We know there are many high school athletes out there right now that are good enough to play college athletics who haven’t received any attention from college coaches. Why not? Well, the truth is if college coaches don’t know you exist, they won’t recruit you.
There are more opportunities for athletic scholarships than you know of. For high school athletes to succeed in the recruiting process, they need to separate themselves from other recruits. The same goes for junior college athletes. The best way to separate yourself as an athlete, is to make it easy for college coaches to recruit you.
The key is to start early. You cannot afford to put your recruiting campaign off until your senior year. Start as early as possible. If playing college athletics is your ultimate goal, then you need to start contacting coaches and let them know you’re interested in their programs. If you’re in your senior season, it’s time to get moving! It’s not too late!! Don’t be intimidated by the unknown! Steel Athlete will empower you with the knowledge and tools necessary, to create a successful recruiting campaign.
